We fit boilers. New ones, replacements, and the central heating and hot water that runs off them, across Chesterfield and the villages around it. Installation is all we take on, so our week is not being pulled apart by other work and the date we give you holds.

Fifty-five years of fitting heating sits behind every job. We are Gas Safe registered, number 639051, covering domestic and commercial work, and G3 qualified for unvented hot water cylinders.

We work out of Grassmoor, so Chesterfield, Hasland, North Wingfield, Holmewood and Wingerworth are minutes away rather than a drive across the county, and we travel out to Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Mansfield as well. Coming out to look and giving you a written price costs nothing — and if your boiler has a few good years left in it, we will say so.

What we fit

Eight things we get called out for

Everything below is installation work. Tap a card to jump to it.

Boiler Installation and Replacement in Chesterfield

Most people ring us when the old boiler is getting tired, not once it has already given up. Boiler installation is the whole of our week, so you are not booking a general plumber who fits boilers in the gaps between other work.

A straight Boiler Replacement — same spot, same pipework, same flue — is usually in and running the same day. A New Boiler Installation somewhere different takes longer, because the gas run, the flue route and the condensate all have to be worked out before anything comes off the wall.

Gas Boiler Installation and Gas Boiler Replacement are notifiable work. Your job is registered with Gas Safe and building control and you get the paperwork for it. We come out, look at the house, and give you a written price before any money changes hands.

Boiler Fitting: Supply and Fit, or Fit Only

Most jobs are supply and fit — we bring the boiler and the parts and one price covers the lot. If you have already bought a boiler yourself, ring us before it turns up and we will tell you whether it suits the house.

How Long Does It Take to Get a New Boiler Fitted?

A like-for-like swap is normally a single day, on and running by the end of it. Move the boiler to another room, or come off a back boiler, and it usually runs into a second day. You will know which before we start.

Local Boiler Installers, Not a Sales Team

The national outfits send a commission-paid salesman first and an engineer weeks later, and the two never meet. Here the owner comes out, looks at the job and prices it himself, and the same firm carries out the work.

Older Chesterfield Terraces

The Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the town centre were never built around a modern boiler. Narrow kitchens, chimney breasts in the way and solid brick walls change where the flue can go more than the boiler itself does.

Combi, System and Back Boiler Work

What you have now decides most of this job. Combi Boiler Installation in a house that already runs a combi is straightforward. A Combi Boiler Conversion from a tank-and-cylinder system means the cylinder comes out, the loft tanks come out and the pipework gets reworked, so it is a longer job with more making good afterwards.

A System Boiler Installation keeps the cylinder, which suits bigger houses where two showers might run at once. Back Boiler Removal comes up constantly around here — the fire comes out, the boiler behind it comes out, and the chimney is dealt with properly rather than boarded over. Boiler Relocation moves the boiler somewhere sensible while the floors and walls are open anyway.

Combi Boiler Replacement, Like for Like

If the combi you have is simply worn out, a combi boiler replacement is the shortest job on this page. Same corner, same pipes, new unit, hot water back the same evening.

System Boiler Replacement and Sealed Systems

A system boiler replacement usually means losing the loft tank and running the heating sealed and pressurised. Fewer things in the loft to freeze, and better pressure upstairs.

Getting a Combi Boiler Fitted Where a Back Boiler Was

Grassmoor, North Wingfield and Danesmoor still have plenty of back boilers sat behind a gas fire. Getting a combi boiler fitted in one of those houses is really three jobs: the strip-out, new gas and water runs, then the fire opening made good.

Moving a Boiler to the Loft or Garage

Kitchens are worth more than cupboard space. Moving a boiler into a loft or garage frees up the room, but it needs boarding, lighting, frost protection and a safe way to get to it.

Central Heating Installation

Central Heating Installation is more than the boiler on the wall. It is the pipework, the radiators and the controls working as one thing.

A New Central Heating System in a house that has never had one means lifting floors, running pipe and setting out radiators room by room. Heating system installation in a house that already has heating is more often a rework than a start from scratch. Radiator Installation and Radiator Replacement can be done on their own, or on the same visit as the boiler while the water is already drained down.

Gas Central Heating Installation From Scratch

In a house with no wet heating at all, gas central heating installation is a floors-up job: gas run, boiler, pipework, radiators and controls. It takes a few days, and the house stays liveable while it is going in.

New Radiators, Sizing and Moving Them

New radiators are sized to the room, not to the gap under the window. If a radiator has to come off for plastering or a new kitchen, radiator removal and refitting is worth doing while everything else is open.

Replacing Warm Air Heating With Radiators

Some of the postwar estates still have warm air heating with grilles in the floor. Putting a boiler and radiators in instead is a full central heating installation, and the old ducting usually stays where it is.

Hot Water Cylinders and Immersion Heaters

Not every house should be on a combi. One bathroom and two people, and a combi is usually right. Two bathrooms, or a bath everybody wants at the same time, and storing hot water works better.

Hot Water Cylinder Installation covers both kinds. A vented cylinder is fed from a tank in the loft. Unvented Cylinder Installation runs at mains pressure with no loft tank at all, which is why the shower feels stronger. Unvented work needs a G3 qualification on top of Gas Safe registration, and we hold both.

Hot Water Tank Replacement is long overdue in a lot of houses where the cylinder is still the original one. Immersion Heater Replacement is a smaller job — new element, new stat, hot water back the same visit. Water heater installation covers the single-point heaters that sit over a sink or out in a workshop.

If two showers ever run at the same time in your house, a stored hot water system will do a better job than a combi, whatever size combi you put in.

Replacing Hot Water Systems in Older Houses

Replacing hot water pipework in a Victorian terrace usually turns up lead somewhere, or old imperial copper that nothing modern will fit. Better to find that with the floor already up than to price around it and hope.

Local Unvented Cylinder Installers and the G3 Ticket

Unvented cylinders have to be fitted and signed off by someone qualified to do it. Local unvented cylinder installers are thinner on the ground than boiler fitters, and the discharge pipe is where the corners usually get cut.

Replace an Immersion Heater, or the Whole Tank?

If the tank is sound, replace an immersion heater and leave the rest alone. If it is furred up and lagged with something from the seventies, an immersion tank replacement is the better spend.

System Protection and Gas Upgrades

A new boiler put onto a dirty system will not last. Power Flush pushes the sludge out of the radiators and pipework before the new boiler goes on, and Magnetic System Filter Installation catches what builds up afterwards. The filter is a small part of the bill and the best single thing you can do for a new boiler.

Gas Supply Upgrade work matters more than people expect. A boiler bigger than the old one may need a larger pipe run from the meter to work properly. Flue Installation decides where a boiler can actually go, because the flue has to terminate somewhere legal and clear of windows, doors and the boundary.

Power Flushing Radiators Before a New Boiler

Black water out of a radiator means the system is full of sludge. Power flushing radiators before the changeover protects the new heat exchanger and gets the cold bottoms warm again.

Flues for Boilers: Where It Can Actually Go

Flues for boilers have rules about distance from windows, doors, boundaries and anything overhead. In a terrace with a narrow passage down the side, that is often what settles the boiler's position.

Gas Installations and Pipe Sizing

Gas installations are sized for the whole house, not the boiler on its own. Fire, hob and boiler all pull off the same supply, and an undersized run shows up later as a boiler that locks out under load.

Inhibitor, and Why It Runs Out

Inhibitor is the chemical that stops the inside of your radiators rusting. It gets weaker every time the system is drained down, so it goes back in at the end of every job we do.

Heating Controls and Thermostats

Controls are the cheapest part of the system and the part that decides your bills. Heating Controls Installation goes in with every boiler we fit, because the building regulations expect it.

Smart Thermostat Installation suits people whose week looks different every week. Plain Thermostat installation — dial on the wall, timer on the boiler — still suits plenty of houses and there is nothing wrong with it. Thermostatic Radiator Valve Installation lets you turn down the rooms nobody sits in, which is where most of the saving actually comes from.

Boiler Thermostat Replacement When the Boiler Stays

If the boiler is sound and only the controls are dated, boiler thermostat replacement on its own is worth doing. New room stat, new programmer, same boiler on the wall.

Radiator Valves in Bathrooms and Small Rooms

Radiator valves in bathrooms are the one place a thermostatic head misleads you, because the steam off a hot bath fools the sensor into closing it down. A manual valve on the towel rail is usually the better answer.

Zones, Timers and Bigger Houses

A house over three floors, or one with a long extension off the back, is better split into two zones with a stat each. One thermostat in a draughty hallway leaves the rest of the house too warm all winter.

Setting the Flow Temperature

Most condensing boilers are left running far hotter than they need to. Turning the flow temperature down costs nothing, keeps the boiler condensing and takes money off the bill. We set it before we leave and show you where it is.

Commercial Boilers and Heating

Our Gas Safe registration covers non-domestic work as well as domestic, so Commercial Boiler Installation is on the list — shops, offices, workshops and small industrial units around Chesterfield.

Commercial Boiler Replacement on working premises is mostly a planning job: when the heat can go off, how the old plant comes out, and what has to happen outside opening hours. Commercial Heating Installation and Commercial Heating Services cover the pipework and the emitters as well as the boiler itself. You get a Commercial Gas Engineer who can price the work and carry it out on the same registration.

Commercial Boilers in Shops, Pubs and Small Units

Commercial boilers in a small unit are often domestic-pattern boilers run as a pair rather than one large plant. Simpler to fit, simpler to keep going, and if one drops out you still have half the heat.

Commercial Gas Installers and Non-Domestic Registration

Domestic registration does not cover commercial work — commercial gas installers hold separate categories for it. Ours is 639051 and it covers both sides, so the same people price it and do it.

What a Commercial Heating Engineer Prices Up

Commercial heating engineers price the disruption as much as the kit: access, out-of-hours working, and how long the building can stand being cold. Get that wrong and the cheap quote costs more.

Landlords, Letting Agents and New Builds

Landlord Boiler Installation is a different job from the same work in your own house, because somebody else is living there while it happens.

New Build Central Heating goes in to the builder's programme instead — first fix while the walls are open, second fix once the plastering is done and the floors are down. If you are a developer, or taking a house back to brick, get us in early. Pipework is cheap while the floors are up and dear once they are back down.

Fitting Around a Tenant

Tenants need notice and a working day they can plan around. We give a date and keep to it, dust sheets go down, and the aim is always heat and hot water back on the same day.

Building Regulations and Your Certificate

Every boiler we fit is notified to building control through Gas Safe. The certificate comes to you, and it is the document a buyer's solicitor asks for years later when the house is sold.

Ex-Colliery Housing Around Chesterfield

The former colliery rows in Grassmoor, North Wingfield and Danesmoor make up a lot of the rented stock south of the town. Solid walls, back boilers and small kitchens — worth pricing properly rather than assuming a straight swap.

Why us

Fifty-Five Years in the Trade, and a 12-Year Extended Warranty

Fifty-five years of fitting heating sits behind the work that goes out under our name. Moor Boilers works out of Grassmoor, and the owner comes out to look at the job and prices it himself, so you are dealing with the business rather than a call centre.

The extended warranty is ours. We back it ourselves — it is not bought in from anybody else:

  • 12-year extended warranty on parts, labour and call-outs, backed by us
  • Seven years of free annual servicing included with the installation, as part of that guarantee
  • Free quotes and free call-out — no charge to come and look
  • Gas Safe registered 639051, domestic and non-domestic
  • G3 qualified for unvented hot water cylinders
  • Fully insured — public liability cover in place

Twelve years is a long time to stand behind your own work. It is why we are fussy about what goes onto a dirty system, what size boiler a house actually needs, and where the flue ends up. Getting those three right is what stops us having to come back.

Common questions

What people ask before they book

How long does it take to fit a new boiler?

A like-for-like swap is normally one day, fitted and running by the end of it. Moving the boiler to a different room, coming off a back boiler, or putting in a whole new system takes two or three days. We will tell you which before you commit to a date.

Do I need to be at home while the work is done?

Someone needs to let us in, and be there at the end so we can show you the controls. In between you do not have to stay with us. If you are out at work we can sort keys and timings when we come to quote.

What happens to my old boiler?

We take it away, along with the packaging and any radiators or cylinder that came out. The metal goes for scrap and the rest is disposed of properly. Nothing is left in your garden or your garage.

Will my heating and hot water be off all day?

The water goes off while the work is on, so plan for a day without it on a straight replacement. On the longer jobs we aim to leave you with hot water overnight wherever the system allows it.

What does the 12-year extended warranty cover?

Parts, labour and call-outs for twelve years, backed by us rather than bought in from anybody else. The yearly visit that keeps it in good order is included for the first seven years.

Do you charge to come out and quote?

No. The call-out is free and so is the quote. You get a written price with the boiler, the parts and the work set out on it, and there is nothing to pay if you decide against it.

Can you fit a combi where my back boiler is?

Usually, yes. The fire and the boiler behind it come out, the chimney is dealt with, and the combi normally ends up in the kitchen or a utility. It is a bigger job than a straight swap, and the price reflects the making good as well as the boiler.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes, number 639051, for domestic and non-domestic work. You can check it yourself on the Gas Safe Register website. We also hold G3, which is what unvented hot water cylinders need.
